The Small Planet Fund has made a commitment to the long-term support of core grantees from six countries. Each of these groups embodies our five principles and we are proud to be partners with them. You can learn more about their work in Hope’s Edge and through our short profiles here.
The Green Belt Movement
Thanks to an annual anonymous donation starting in 2005, we also make small emergency grants, ranging from $500 to $5,000, for social change organizations around the globe at critical points in their projects. These are groups for whom a small infusion of cash, without having to jump through extensive grant writing hoops, can make a huge difference. Past grants have included support for Via Campesina’s farmer-to-farmer tsunami rescue efforts and support to farmers rebuilding after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
Fundraising & Support
- We raise our funds through individual donations throughout the year as well as through an annual fundraiser in New York City and an annual online auction.
- Since 2002, we have received donations, from as little as $5 to as much as $50,000 from hundreds of people across the country, and the globe. We welcome you to join us with a tax-deductible contributions.
- Please note: If you would like to help us grow our emergency fund, please be sure to let us know when you make your donation. Otherwise, all donations are used to support our core grantees.
- If you’d like to volunteer with the Fund or have other ideas for ways to collaborate, please contact Carrie@EventsThatMatter.org.
How We Work
The Small Planet Fund is administered by our partner, RSF Social Finance. As a project of RSF Social Finance, the Small Planet Fund is able to keep our expenses extremely low. With a volunteer-led staff, we are able to pass along almost 100 percent of all funds raised directly to the grantees.
Because we are a volunteer-led fund, we do not have program staff to enable us to review unsolicited grant requests.
